Best STEM Gift Ideas for Playful Learning

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and is getting a lot of emphasis in education right now. With good reason-These are skills our children will need in school and in the “real world.” Luckily, STEM toys can be super fun! I created this list with a preschooler in mind (3-5 years old) but every child is different, with different abilities and interests. Make sure you check out descriptions further to double check it’s right for your child!

FYI: STEM is sometimes called STEAM and includes “Art” as well. I’m working on a separate post for art and creative toys, so stay tuned!

MATHEMATICS

Classic wood abacus from Melissa and Doug

Also Note: Puzzles are great for teaching early math skills! They teach spatial awareness and there are a million options out there, way too many to list. I absolutely love Melissa and Doug’s puzzles though. They’re beautiful and tend to be really durable!
