It’s easy to forget the romance that brought you and your spouse together when you’re so busy being partners in parenthood and adulthood. There are always going to be more chores to do, more business to discuss, more bills to pay.
With a busy toddler, another baby due soon, and both of us working full time, we don’t have a lot of quality time together. We’re able to sneak off for quick dates here and there, but honestly, most days, come 8pm, I just want to put my pajamas on and sit on the couch.
We’ve tried to make time for each other in the evenings, but usually that ends up with us scrolling through Facebook and Instagram in front of the TV, or at best playing the same board game and then going to bed. My husband’s love language is Quality Time, and the lack of quality time has been hurting our romantic relationship. We’re friends and partners, but the rest has fallen by the wayside, like many parents.
An Affordable Date Planned For You!
So when I heard about Night In Boxes: Date Night In a Box, I was intrigued. I shared it with my husband and he said “That’s cool! Let’s come up with our own little date night kits!” Well of course life is busy and 2 weeks later neither of us had even come up with any ideas, let alone built a kit. So we let Night In Boxes do the work for us and ordered one.
We received the 5 Senses date box, with a little something for each sense. For example gourmet and unique caramels for taste, massage cards with massage oil for touch. There was a Spotify playlist (that I actually really enjoyed) and a little booklet walking you through the date.
I love subscription box services! I’ve tried out several from spice subscriptions to make-up-I’ll-Never-Wear-Because-I-Have-a-Toddler subscriptions, to of course Stitch Fix (yes, that’s a referral link, I’m not ashamed!). Most subscription boxes I’ve tried are packed with stuff to play with, which make you think “What a deal!” So I was surprised by the contents in this box; I thought, where’s the stuff? But after going through the date, I realized; Night In Boxes is not about stuff, it’s about quality time and experiences. We had a lot of fun, but most importantly we connected and shared quality time together. We talked, laughed, flirted and enjoyed being with each other like we used to before the busy-ness of parenthood took over our identities. My husband declared at the end, “I had a lot more fun than I was expecting to have!” We even stayed up an hour past our bedtime!
If you’re looking for an inexpensive, pre-planned date (no babysitter required) I highly recommend Date Night In. They also have other Night In Boxes; Faith Night In, Mom’s Night In and Kid’s Night In (previously Father-Daughter Night In). You can order just a single box or make it a monthly thing.
